Ask what goes into it, a mocktail is usually fruit, syrup and soda, and the one thing to check is a honey or cream syrup.
Disgorged with two grams per liter dosage, Billecart-Salmon's 2009 Extra Brut Vintage is more giving and demonstrative than its 2008 counterpart, offering up inviting aromas of crisp stone fruit, yellow apple, brioche, honeycomb and warm pastry. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a pillowy mousse and a generous core of fruit girdled by bright acids, it's seamless and complete. Indeed, such is its charm and persistence that I tend to prefer it, at least for now, to the 2008. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

A lively rosé Champagne with a pleasing, citrusy juiciness to the flavors of steeped raspberry, white peach and blanched almond. A subtle thread of chalky minerality winds through the finish. Drink now through 2023. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Wine Spectator

The pale gold, greenish shimmering 2002 Rare Millésime; 30% Pinot Noir and 70% Chardonnay; offers a very intense and rich, yet fresh nose of exotic fruit aromas of pineapples, mango, kiwi and passion fruit. On the palate, this is a mouthful of luscious Champagne: powerful and intense, but pure and with the complexity of matured wines. The finish is very exotic in its fruit aromas, but also persistently mineral. Rating: 95pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

The 2010 Pinot Noir Silver Belt Cuvée Natalie is a pretty, aromatic wine endowed with gorgeous lift and a gracious personality, with none of the wilder notes found in the Kistler Vineyard. The Cuvée Natalie is quite delicate, at times even a bit frail, but it nevertheless impresses with its superb purity and fine overall balance. There is a sense of energy in the Cuvée Natalie that is highly appealing. My impression is that the Cuvée Natalie is not built for the long haul, but it will drink nicely for at least the next few years. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

Library release of just a few cases of elegant aged Pinot. Vineyard source: Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County CA. There is a fair degree of smoky, toasty, caramel-ly oak here but the fruit beneath is tremendously attractive, seductive, and impressive, with long juicy length and robust varietal integrity at every turn. This is a top notch wine. Smoked cherries, leads of cranberry, zephyrs of undergrowth and integrated, spicy, softened tannins. Showing beautifully right now. Ariki Hill makes only Pinot Noir, and although he's a Kiwi, he makes it in Australia and California! Glowing reviews from Australia preceded the wines arrival, and since they've been here they've gained U.S. recognition as well

Fattoria dei Barbi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino starts with a tightly wound personality that begins to unravel slowly, one delicate layer at a time. As it does, you become aware of dried fruit, cigar box, Crushed mineral, plum, tar and cola. The wine puts on a beautiful display. I also loved the mouthfeel of this beautiful wine: It is tonic, tight and brimming with energy. Well-integrated oak notes give the wine a spot of softness and velvety spice. This is one beautiful Sangiovese. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon struts flamboyantly out of the glass with notions of creme de cassis, blackberry pie and plum preserves plus hints of cigar box, Chinese five spice, sautéed herbs, cast-iron pan and charcuterie. Full-bodied, rich, seductive and oh-so-decadent, it has a firm level of beautifully plush tannins and loads of exotic spice and savory layers, finishing long and mineral laced. Mays Canyon is home to the Porter-Bass Estate located on the western edge of the Russian River Appellation, outside the charming town of Guerneville and eight miles from the Pacific Coast. At 200 - 400 feet elevation, this site is unique as it is surrounded by the Russian River on three sides. Large redwood trees skirt the area which help form a protective barrier that warms the climate of the vineyard. The Hugo gravelly loam soils also help to capture and retain the heat of the day, offering the vines additional warmth as the fog begins to roll in. Mays Canyon is farmed using certified organic materials and biodynamic methods. Rating: 91pts Rating Source: Vinous

Cerise is a beautiful hillside vineyard situated between 800 - 1,100 elevation on a very steep and rocky south-facing slope in the northeast range of mountains above the town of Boonville. While this is located at the warmer end of the Anderson Valley, its elevation and exposure place it directly in the fog layer, resulting in great diurnal swings. Coupled with poor top soils, this steep exposition allows for us to harvest fruit with a high skin-to-juice ratio from the struggling vines. The soils vary within the three cascading hills that make up Littorai’s parcels, allowing for complex and well-structured wines. Our parcel of Cerise Vineyard was planted expressly for Littorai in 1998. This site is farmed using organic materials and biodynamic methods, not certified. Rating: 90-92pts Rating Source: Vinous

The 2010 Pinot Noir Occidental Station Cuvée Catherine blasts from the glass with waves of seamless dark fruit. A brooding wine, the Cuvée Catherine is endowed with serious power for the year. Ash, smoke, tobacco and incense add complexity as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2010 boasts serious structure, with big tannins supporting the huge, dramatic finish. Readers will have to give the 2010 another year or two in bottle. For now, it is the wine’s structure that dominates. It will be very interesting to see the direction the 2010 takes over the coming years. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

An elegant, pure and beautifully layered nose reflects notes of dark cherry, raspberry and violets. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is at once refined but muscular with both good delineation and a subtle minerality adding interest to the complex and lingering finish that exhibits hints of chocolate and warmth. This is also notably ripe with black cherry, pungent earth and evident sauvage nuances that also characterize the impressively rich and seductively textured broad-shouldered and concentrated flavors that coat the palate with extract, all wrapped in a balanced, long and deep finish. Our original estate vineyard, The Haven is located at 1,200 feet elevation between the tiny town of Occidental and the Pacific Ocean. It lies on an east-west ridge and from its south-facing slope, one can see the fog-enshrouded ocean in the distance. There are approximately 40 different rootstock and clonal combinations within this small four-acre vineyard. It is a microcosm of the diversity of soils within the Sonoma Coast. The Haven is very cool and late ripening therefore it is one of the last sites that we harvest every year. We farm it using organic materials and biodynamic methods, not certified. Possibly as remarkable as both the 2009 and 2010, the 2008 Hosanna is one of the superstars of the vintage. Its dense plum/purple color is followed by aromas and flavors of spring flowers, black currants, boysenberries, white chocolate and forest floor. This is the first wine to display any appreciable wood influence and this includes both menthol and toast elements on the otherwise attractive aromas of various dark berries, plum, earth and a top note of lavender. There is excellent intensity to the caressing middle weight plus flavors that retain good detail as well as power on the anise-inflected finish where a hint of anise appears. A discreet application of wood frames very fresh and once again restrained aromas of red currant, kirsch and plenty of earth and sauvage influence. There is good density to the broad-shouldered and muscular flavors that possess plenty of that beguiling quality of underlying tension, all wrapped in a very firm, dusty and strikingly long finish that coats the mouth with dry extract. Patience will definitely be required. Rating: 91-94pts Rating Source: Burghound Bright red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, white pepper and wild herbs. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, with the pepper and herb elements carrying through on the palate. In a very tight stage today, showing the brisk acidity it displayed from barrel a year ago but hiding its richness. The Clos de Bèze has more material and depth, but with its substantial tannins this taut wine may need at least as long to come into harmony. Rating: 92+pts Rating Source: Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Unique representation of famous Bien Nacido Vineyard. Vineyard source: Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County CA. Brisk and lively with a snappy spice edge, this 2003 Bien Nacido Pinot Noir is multilayered. Among its numerous assets is its vibrancy and youthfulness, evidence of Ariki Hill's ability to maintain finesse in Pinot Noir. This wine will cellar well for another 5 years, minimum. Try it with baked salmon in leek and lemon sauce. Ariki makes only Pinot Noir, and although he's a Kiwi, he makes it in Australia and California! Glowing reviews from Australia preceded the wines arrival, and since they've been here they've gained U.S. recognition as well. Tasted at the pre-dinner vertical to mark Sylvain Pitiot's retirement from the domaine, the 2011 Clos de Tart Grand Cru has a distinctly more herbaceous and leafier nose than the 2012. Here we are walking in woodland around mid-October, the damp ground strewn with brown leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly more rustic tannins than the 2012, but there is tremendous depth here and it seems to gain complexity toward the finish that gently fans out. It is another elegant Clos de Tart that will drink over the next 20 years. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

The Cuvée Cathleen is amazing stuff, only to be eclipsed by the 2007 Pinot Noir Cuvée Elizabeth Bodega Headlands. Sweet black raspberries, camphor, and forest floor notes intermixed with a cocktail of spring flowers all jump from the glass of this full-bodied, gorgeously proportioned, rich wine that is about as compelling as California Pinot Noir is capable of being. It has a Burgundy-like structure, but its great purity of fruit and dazzling texture and length are awesome. The 2009 Pinot Noir Occidental Station Cuvée Catherine is flat-out beautiful. All of the elements are in the right place in this majestic, towering Pinot. Good deep red-ruby. Red plum, graphite, mocha and potpourri on the fresh, piercing nose. Then dense, suave and deep, showing noteworthy intensity to the complex flavors of blackberry, tobacco leaf and mocha. Wonderfully silky and sweet, finishing with very fine-grained tannins and lingering red plum and tobacco leaf flavors. This clean, fresh wine features lovely balance and is much more polished and intense than the outstanding but lighter, higher-acid Podere Brizio 2013 Brunello. Offering spice, depth and good definition, the Idda 2018 Etna Rosso was born in a challenging vintage. Summer hailstorms damaged much of the yields and meant that fruit management was completed manually and with extra care, cluster by cluster, to make sure only the best bunches remained on the vines. That hard work paid off to produce a delicate, almost subdued expression from powerful Etna in which more attention is given to the soft fruit and berry nuances. The wine sports a fresh and fruit-forward style with streamlined fruit weight and an almost ethereal personality. Spice, tar and resin fill in the rear. Rating: 91pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

The Briccolina vineyard is located in Serralunga d'Alba. Tiziano Grasso's 2015 Barolo Briccolina shows some of the extra heat and warmth that is characteristic of the 2015 growing season. You taste that extra ripeness and softness in the plummy black fruit and cherry that sits firm at its core. Of course, Serralunga d'Alba with its marl soil and limestone adds its own signature to the final results. This wine is big and bold for sure, but ultimately, the Nebbiolo grape always tends to Rêvert to a place of elegance. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2016 Pinot Noir Free, stone-Occidental has a bright, open nose of warm cranberry, rhubarb and pomegranate with raspberry and red cherry preserves plus notes of saline, orange peel, autumn leaves, Rosé petal and stone. Light to medium-bodied, it's packed with juicy red, perfumed fruits in the mouth, with very fine, softly grainy tannins and juicy freshness, finishing long and focused. There's a unique coastal signature to this very pretty wine. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

This is the second vintage from Seven Apart. The winemaker here is Andy Erickson, formerly at Screaming Eagle and Harlan Estate and currently also consulting winemaker at Dalla Valle (among others). Opaque purple-black in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Expedition erupts from the glass with explosive scents of boysenberry preserves, blueberry pie and Black Forest cake, plus suggestions of molten chocolate, licorice, tar and violets, with a waft of sandalwood. The full-bodied palate is full-on rich and decadent, exuding layer upon layer of opulent black and blue fruit preserves with bags of exotic spice accents and a long, fragrant finish. Pure hedonism. It is tantalizingly delicious right now, but give it 3-4 years in bottle to blow off that puppy fat, and drink it over the next 25 years+

Bright purple. Smoke- and mineral-accented cherry and black raspberry aromas, with licorice and olive paste nuances adding complexity. Sweet, penetrating dark berry and floral pastille flavors are enlivened by a smoky mineral element and pick up a peppery quality with air. Fleshes out slowly on the clinging well-delineated finish, which is framed by harmonious tannins that blend smoothly with the wine's energetic dark fruit. There's impressive energy here considering the warmth on the vintage. Rating: 93pts Rating Source: Vinous This historic domaine gets plenty of love for its Condrieu bottlings, but the medium-bodied 2015 Côte Rôtie Blonde du Seigneur is a terrific red. Perfumed of violets and mixed herbs, loaded with compact purple raspberry fruit, it's tannic but ripe, with a long, velvety finish. Rating: 93pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

A densely fruited nose of very fresh and reasonably refined animale and earth-suffused red currant and plum aromas introduces exceptionally pure and gorgeously textured middle weight flavors that also possess excellent volume and plenty of taut muscularity on the slightly herbal, long, austere and detailed finish. A balanced effort that should amply reward mid-term cellaring, at least by the standards of this Cru. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Burghound The estate's 2008 Clos de Vougeot is a pretty, layered and open wine laced with dark red fruit, flowers and black pepper. It is a soft, supple 2008, and while undoubtedly very well-made, it lacks the visceral thrill of the very finest wines of the vintage. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

Graceful and silky, this is well-marked by toast and vanilla notes from high quality oak that frame the core of violet, black currant and bilberry fruit. Builds slowly to the long, fruit- and spice-saturated finish. Shows excellent purity and finesse. Rating: 95pts Rating Source: Wine Spectator

Rating: 99pts Rating Source: Vinous The 2010 Barolo is a singularly elegant expression that benefits from extremely long maceration time (up to 54 days) and a non-interventionists’ winemaking philosophy. The wine is superb in its elegance and finesse that caresses the palate in the most delicate and ethereal manner imaginable. Small fruit tones are enhanced by ash, crushed mineral, licorice and dried mint. Because of changes in how Barolo can be labeled, the wine no longer carries the names of the four single-vineyards that make up the traditional blend for this wine (Canubbi, San Lorenzo, Rue and Rocche di La Morra). Instead, this historic wine is now labeled straightforward “Barolo.” Drink: 2017-2038. Rating: 96+pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

Strong reduction prevents an evaluation of the nose though there is excellent richness and concentration to the delicious and sappy flavors that possess ripe supporting tannins and plenty of buffering mid-palate sap, all wrapped in a balanced, spicy, complex and built-to-age finish. The 1988 Lafite-Rothschild is the best of the triumvirate that ended the decade. Another bottle vindicates that view. It shows an intense bouquet with graphite-tinged black fruit mixed with cedar aromatics that seem to effortlessly cruise as Lafite is wont to do. The palate is beautifully balanced and blossoms in the glass. The 1988 has svelte, finely chiseled tannins. Tobacco notes appear towards the finish. This quintessential Lafite-Rothschild is even better than the bottle popped open at the château six years ago. Tasted at the 1988 Bordeaux dinner at Noble Rot Mayfair. Mild reduction disguises the more subtle elements of the nose but there is plenty of earth character present on what appears to be ripe red berry aromas that lie beneath the funk. There is a highly seductive texture to the large-scaled, sleekly muscular, intense and massive flavors that again, despite all the sheer size and weight, manage to remain focused and betray absolutely no sense of heaviness. The breathtakingly long finish is quite saline with an almost pungent minerality that adds lift. Mostly wines would have been Crushed coming after the Musigny but this more than held its own. This is flat out tremendous and entirely textbook. Rating: 96pts Rating Source: Burghound

Santa Barbara blend perfect for everyday enjoyment. Vineyard source: Santa Barbara County CA. Very supple and lush right from the start. Nice and full with subtle complexity. Fresh Crunchy red fruit tied in with earth and spice overtones with a hint of oak. The mouth feel is very gentle and smooth. The wine goes with almost anything. Lane Tanner is a legend in Santa Barbara County. If you haven't heard of her, think the famous Hitching Post Pinot Noir (featured in Sideways) in its prime. Lane was winemaker for Hitching Post from it's inception in 1985 until 1989 when she started her own wildly successful brand. She is one of a kind and so are her ageable wines

Summus is a delicious blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that opens with a round and soft bouquet with plush layers of blackberry, chocolate, cherry liqueur, toasted almond, tobacco and leather. Rouget noted that this had just finished its malo and not surprisingly the nose was heavily reduced. By contrast there was excellent punch and verve to the wonderfully precise mineral-driven flavors that possess a silky mouth feel before terminating in an explosive finish that delivers outstanding length. I very much like the level of complexity here as well as the decidedly understated style. Rating: 91-94 pts Rating Source: Burghound

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from their Howell Mountain vineyards is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot. A beauty, with mulberry, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, graphite and spice, the wine cuts a broad swath across the palate with no hard edges. The color is a healthy, deep purple and the wine full-bodied, rich, and while drinkable now, is capable of evolving for up to 15-20 years. Rating: 93pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate

A top note of herbal tea can be found on the very ripe but fresh liqueur-like nose that is constituted by the essence of black cherry, plum and discreet warm earth and underbrush scents. The sleek, delicious and vibrant larger-scaled flavors are not as dense, but they are attractively textured thanks to the dense but fine tannins on the balanced, complex, impressively long and balanced finale. Rating: 93pts Rating Source: Burghound A ripe red introduced by distinctive graphite and juniper aromas, with plum, blackberry and earth notes plying the soft structure. Harvest from September 10th to October 10th, the 2013 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is a sexy, supple and textured effort that has lots of jammy dark fruits, licorice and toasted spice. Deep plum, currant, and mineral notes emerge from the concentrated, beautifully balanced, pure 1999 Haut Brion. It seems to be cut from the same mold as years such as 1979 and 1985. There is a hint of graphite in the abundant fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied, nuanced, subtle, deep, and provocatively elegant. It is made in a style that only Haut Brion appears capable of achieving. The finish is extremely long, the tannins sweet, and the overall impression one of delicacy interwoven with power and ripeness. Rating: 93 Rating Source: Wine Advocate

It is hard to call Petrus a “sleeper of the vintage,” but the 2008 will merit more attention than most consumers would think. Low yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare resulted in only 25,000 bottles of this beauty. A wine of great intensity (possibly the most concentrated wine of the vintage), this 100% Merlot boasts a dark purple color as well as a sweet perfume of mocha, caramel, black cherries, black currants, earth and forest floor. Deep, unctuously textured, full-bodied and pure, it will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring and should drink well for 25-30+ years. Rating: 97pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

The 1989 Gruaud Larose is evolving very slowly, and its impressively youthful structure and vibrant flavors auger very well for its future. Offering up aromas of sweet berry fruit, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and cedar, it's medium to full-bodied, with a rich core of fruit, lively acids and fine but still present tannins. As this develops in the cellar, it's showing more plenitude and mid-palate volume than it did a decade ago, and for patient readers this is emerging as a comparatively underestimated 1989 Médoc. The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Village is matured in 30% new oak, although Emmanuel Rouget took this sample from a new barrel. It has a refined, pure nose, not powerful yet finely tuned, with subtle floral aromas. Medium red. Pungent red fruits and flowers along with a suggestion of crystallized fruits on the nose. Dense, silky and suave on entry, then a bit inexpressive in the middle owing to strong sappy minerality. Chewy, pure wine with noble tannins and outstanding persistence. Very much in an upper-slope style and built for extended aging. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Very mild reduction doesn't completely hide the intrinsic Vosne spice notes that also suffuse the intense mineral and beautifully refined and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess both lovely delineation as well as that beguiling sense of underlying tension on the classy, cool and impeccably well-balanced finish. Pale gold. Sexy, highly energetic aromas of white peach, pear nectar, melon and tangerine carry a bright floral overtone. Juicy, focused and densely packed, showing a suave interplay of richness and vivacity to the orchard and pit fruit and floral flavors. Shows superb power and depth on the strikingly long finish, which echoes the peach and tangerine qualities. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Vinous

The 2012 Chardonnay Trenton Roadhouse returns to the tropical fruit side of Chardonnay, with pineapple, mango, mandarin orange and honeysuckle notes. Long, rich, full-bodied, crisp and zesty, this is a juicy, succulent, opulent and full-bodied Chardonnay to drink over the next 5-7 years. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

Kistler’s 2010 Chardonnay Trenton Roadhouse is one of the bigger, richer wines in this lineup, but at the same time, there is a huge center of minerality running in the fruit. Orange blossoms, nectarines and tropical all make an appearance in this striking, totally exciting Chardonnay. At times, the Trenton Roadhouse appears to have the structure and frame of a red wine, yet all the elements are in the right place. The 2010 is a wonderfully complete, exciting wine from Steve Kistler. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

From Aubert’s oldest vines, the 2013 Chardonnay Ritchie (1,000 cases produced) is made from the 40-year-old Chardonnay clone called Old Wente. Candied citrus, wet rocks, Granny Smith apples, white peach and honeysuckle notes are found in this full-bodied, prodigious Chardonnay with crisp acidity buttressing the viscous, full-throttle style. All of these 2013s have at least a decade of aging potential. Rating: 96-98 pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

Orange blossoms, nectarines, mint and white flowers all make an appearance in the 2010 Chardonnay Stone Flat Vineyard. Hints of graphite, ash and crushed rocks give the Stone Flat an element of minerality and pure tension that is highly appealing. The 2010 is at once rich yet weightless, especially on the finish, where the wine turns quite delicate and feminine. Rating: 94pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

The 2016 Condrieu les Chaillées de l'Enfer spent 12 months in 25% new oak. It offers delicate, complex notes of toasted almond, orange blossom, apricot and pineapple. Medium to full-bodied, it's briny, fresh and long on the finish, with hints of Crushed stone. This looks to have the ability to age several years, although there's certainly no need to delay gratification. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent results. Earth and secondary aromas introduce medium weight flavors with just enough richness and extract to buffer the still substantial tannins. It's unlikely the fruit and extract will be sufficient to successfully see the ultimate resolution of the tannins. Drinkable now though this will easily hold and is best drunk with food. This somewhat charming, lightweight Cheval Blanc is fully mature but elegant, with sweet red and black currant fruit intermixed with mineral, licorice, and a hint of herbs. Here the nose is both more elegant and more complex with a similar aromatic profile though there are a bit more white orchard fruit and floral elements discernible. There is good detail and a pretty touch of minerality that comes through on the solidly well-concentrated flavors that culminate in a lovely finish of fine depth and length. This is a lovely Puligny villages and worth considering. Rating: 89-91 pts Rating Source: Burghound

The reduction is sufficiently heavy that all that can be discerned is moderate wood influence. Not surprisingly this is notably bigger and more tightly focused than the Pucelles with its broad-shouldered and concentrated flavors that possess a highly textured mouth feel, in fact this is almost chewy. There is firm acid spine shaping the impressively long and well-balanced finish. This should be excellent though unlike some of the wines in the range this will need a few years of bottle age before it's ready for prime time drinking. Rating: 91-93 Rating Source: Burghound

The 2012 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard seems to be the most laid-back, retrained and leanest of all the Chardonnays in the 2012 Kistler portfolio. Floral notes are reticent but emerge with coaxing. The wine is medium-bodied and shows good acidity as well as some tightness and restraint that may favor it among those looking for less ostentatious and exuberant styles of Chardonnay. It is well-endowed, but seems to be holding back a lot of its charm and character under a cloak of acidity. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Robert Parker

A pretty and airy nose offers up notes of apple, pear, acacia blossom and both lemon and orange peel scents. The most aromatically complex wine to this point with seductively attractive earthy red berry fruit aromas that offer an exuberant spiciness with a contrasting touch of underbrush which merge into elegant and very fine mineral-infused middle weight flavors that are rich, intense and possess impressive mid-palate concentration as well as a subtle minerality. I very much like the poise this wine displays as it's harmonious, transparent and beautifully well-balanced. This is perhaps not as concentrated as the biggest of these eight Grands Crus but the impeccable harmony confers a Zen-like calm to this wine. Deep garnet-black colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard unfurls sensuously from the glass with provocative scents of baked black cherries, plum preserves and crème de cassis, with emerging suggestions of fragrant earth, black truffles, Chinese five spice and dusty soil. Vineyard source: Swartland, South Africa. Very limited production of a traditional blend of Grenache and Carignan from the Torroja region. Red and black fruits with spicy aromas. The flavor spectrum contains red berries and cherries, but also displays blueberry and cassis flavors along with spicy aromatics with great length and structure. It all began when Eben Sadie tasted two bottles of wine that were so great and perfect and yet he'd never even heard anything about this region called Priorat. The two wines were 1994 Clos Matinet and 1994 Clos Mogador. This then led to a search on the region, books were bought, eventually a pLane ticket and six months later Eben started work at the Clos Martinet. The year thereafter he worked at Cims de Porrea, a phenomenal cellar in another village. Rating: 91pts Rating Source: Wine Spectator and Vinous

Chalk soils drive pinot noir to make a style that has additional minerality here and compression. On the nose, there are white cherries, gentle spices and hints of almost peppery notes. There's spring honey too and some yeasty, darker mushroomy edges. The palate is silky, very composed, refined, elegant and powerful. It's the chardonnay that defines the palate here in a different way to the other Roederer Champagnes. That this is a unique Champagne is absolutely correct: The depth and grapefruit focus is so impressive, as is the layered, elegant and long finish. Just effortless as a late toasty wave of grilled hazelnuts finishes things off. This is very approachable but will be best around 2022+. Rating: 96pts Rating Source: James Suckling

Santa Barbara blend perfect for everyday enjoyment. Very supple and lush right from the start. Nice and full with subtle complexity. Fresh Crunchy red fruit tied in with earth and spice overtones with a hint of oak. The mouth feel is very gentle and smooth. The wine goes with almost anything. The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers has turned out especially well this year, bursting with notes of peonies, rose petals, orange rind and red berries. When Clos du Roi is on its game, there is no other climat in Corton that can match it for sheer size, weight, power or depth. In the case of this '05, it's almost a blend of the Chaumes and Rognets with its layered ripe black fruit aromas and massive, rich and powerful flavors that preserve a fine sense of balance and exceptional depth though at present the superbly persistent finale is linear to the point of strictness. I like the subtle minerality and this may require up to 15 years in the cellar to really blossom so no point buying this if you're in a rush to drink it. Rating: 91-93pts Rating Source: Burghound

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard Deep Time spent 48 months in barrel, which is amazing when you consider how vibrant it is. Another breathtaking wine, the 2012 Chablis Vaillons blasts across the palate with stunning depth, resonance and pure voluptuousness. Inky ruby. Powerfully scented red and blue fruit liqueur aromas are complicated by suggestions of candied licorice, pungent flowers and cracked pepper. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering densely packed dark berry and cherry cola flavors and a touch of smoky minerality that adds vibrancy and cut. At once rich and graceful, finishing with powerful dark fruit punch and dusty, slow-building tannins. Rating: 92-94pts Rating Source: Vinous A beautiful 2014 that shares plenty of similarities to its big brother, the 2014 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes is medium to full-bodied, rich and nicely concentrated, with plenty of tannin, integrated acidity and loads of black and blue fruits, graphite and Crushed herbs. It plays in the narrower frame that all of the 2014s have, but is a terrific wine that I suspect will have two decades of longevity as well. Rating: 92pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate
A restrained and cool and yet perfumed and ultra-spicy array offers up aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and a wide range of floral elements. The concentrated, tautly muscular and tension-filled flavors possess excellent depth of material as well as an abundance of minerality while exhibiting superb persistence on the firm, dusty, youthfully austere and built-to-age finish where a hint of bitter cherry pit appears. This sleek and classy effort will need an extended stay in a cool cellar. In a word, brilliant. Rating: 96pts Rating Source: Burghound
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a lovely black cherry and boysenberry scented, quite floral in style, with hints of wet limestone in the background. The palate is fresh on the entry, delivering vibrant black fruit infused with orange zest and hints of cassis. Opulent in style, but counterbalanced by the tension and especially the nervosité on the finish. Rating: 90-92pts Rating Source: Vinous A moderately jammy nose speaks of cassis, red and dark cherry and lovely spice wisps. The sleek but succulent medium-bodied flavors retain a lovely sense of underlying tension to the saline-inflected finish that exhibits excellent length. The 2021 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru underwent a picked piecemeal from the 30 different plots to find the best order that actually was linked to vine age. It has a gorgeous bouquet with brambly red fruit, loam, blood oranges and subtle graphite aromas. Superb delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fresh citrus like acidity, tensile and focused. This is a very classic, mineral-driven Musigny with surfeit of salinity that gets the saliva flowing on the finish. So bright on the finish. Rating: 95-97 Rating Source: Vinous
This is aromatically quite similar to the 1er except that it is notably more restrained and requires considerable swirling to coax the nose to reveal its nuances. On the palate though there is noticeably more size, weight and mid-palate density thanks to the abundant sap that imparts a highly seductive mouthfeel while also buffering the firmer, though just as fine, tannic structure shaping the hugely long, youthfully austere and decidedly powerful finish that is akin to rolling tiny rocks around the mouth. This is also positively brilliant with the development potential to match. Rating: 96 Rating Source: Burghound
Deeper and richer, with knockout notes of black raspberry, creme de cassis, spice-box, roasted meats and hints of vanilla bean (this cuvee sees roughly 25% new oak), the 2011 Gigondas Valbelle is full-bodied, seriously concentrated and has a core of sweet fruit that carries through the finish. Still with some oak to integrate, as well as plenty of tannin, this beauty can be enjoyed anytime over the coming decade. Rating: 93 Rating Source: Wine Advocate
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has a little more intensity on the nose compared to the Les Beaux Monts at the moment, while the fruit is a tad darker. The palate is compact on the entry, linear and strict, with blackberry, raspberry and touches of brine on the sturdy finish. This demonstrates the spine I look for in a Malconsorts. Give it three or four years once in bottle, because it punches at Grand Cru weight. Rating: 93-95pts Rating Source: Vinous Both more concentrated and more introverted than the preceding Beaux Monts, Dujac's 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts opens in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, plums, orange rind, smoked duck and peonies. On the palate, it's full-bodied, supple and elegantly muscular, with fine depth at the core, powdery tannins and mouthwatering acids, concluding with a perfumed finish. The 2019 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a wondrous nose, with crushed strawberry, raspberry compote and light vanilla scents. The oak here is supremely well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied and mineral-driven, with fine tannins, great precision and a vivid, animated finish that fans out gloriously. Skillful winemaking is evident here. This coheres magically with time in the glass until you can resist no more! This completely outclasses the Bonnes-Mares. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Rating: 98 Rating Source: Vinous
An extremely fresh, cool and restrained dark berry fruit nose of remarkable complexity displays notes of leather, game, tea, humus and plenty of earth. The muscular and impressively concentrated mineral-inflected medium weight plus flavors culminate in a hugely long and moderately austere finish. This powerful effort is built-to-age and is going to need it. Rating: 91-93 pts Rating Source: Burghound Good bright red. More meat and smoke to the dark fruit aromas; smells energetic. Then surprisingly rich in the mouth, but the dark fruit flavors come across as a bit youthfully backward in spite of the wine's excellent sucrosity. Finishes firmly tannic and long. The 2010 Conteisa is a stunner with all the overwhelming elegance that is inherent to this vintage. It opens steadily to Rêveal red flower, cassis, baking spice, anisette and tobacco. The aromas are expressive and deep with enduring richness. The tannins are slightly sweet and already soft. This is a collector's choice. Drink: 2018-2040. Rating: 97pts Rating Source: Wine Advocate
One of the more limited production releases, the 2012 Gigondas Cuvee Valbelle (which comes from a blend of terroirs) exhibits fabulous cassis, cocoa dusted meat, dried herbs, soy sauce and Asian spice-box-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, deep, concentrated and structured, it’s a powerhouse of a Gigondas that will have 15+ years of evolution Rating: 94 Rating Source: Wine Advocate
There is enough reduction present to dominate the fruit though it does appear to be ripe. This impression is reinforced by the high degree of ripeness of the opulent, indeed even unctuous flavors that possess almost unexpected intensity thanks to the firm supporting acidity that allows the finish to remain clean and dry with solid persistence. Again this isn't classic Folatières as there is less minerality than usual but with that proviso this is still quite pretty in its fashion. Rating: 89-92 Rating Source: Burghound
Here too the nose is cool and restrained with a discreet application of wood framing the beautifully layered aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, citrus confit, spice and a variety of floral nuances and in particular, acacia blossom. The refined and strikingly textured medium weight flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration before terminating in a highly persistent, impeccably well-balanced and markedly dry, but not really austere, finale. This beauty is quite understated with the requisite balance and underlying material to reward long-term keeping. In short, this is potentially brilliant. Rating: 93-96 Rating Source: Burghound
I tasted the 2023 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru both as components from the seven different cuvées that make the final blend and as an approximation of the final blend itself. This has exquisite delineation on the nose: blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone and touches of undergrowth—very harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied, tightly wound and linear, with a sense of symmetry on the entry. But of all the Musigny tasted from barrel in 2023, this has perhaps the most nascent freshness, tension and complexity on the finish. A sense of completeness. Outstanding. This too is so densely colored that it is opaque. As is often the case, this is aromatically similar to the Chambolle 1er but it's less expressive, more complex and more densely fruited as well. There is even better mid-palate concentration to the substantially sized big-bodied flavors that also possess a positively gorgeous mouthfeel while exuding an abundance of mineral character on the chiseled, hugely long, impeccably well-balanced and youthfully austere finale. This Zen-like effort is superb and a wine that should also age gracefully over the next two decades. Rating: 97 Rating Source: Burghound
